PatchOwl™ is a quilt design application made by Chook Logic, Inc. (“PatchOwl,” “we,” “us”). This policy explains what we collect when you use patchowl.com or the PatchOwl desktop app (together, the “Service”), how we use it, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to keep it short and plain.

What we collect

Your account. When you sign in, we receive your email address and, if you provide them, your name, username, and profile image. We do not see or store your password — our sign-in provider handles that.

Waitlist sign-ups. If you join the waitlist, we collect only your email address, through our sign-in provider, so we can send you an invitation.

Onboarding questions. When you first sign in to the desktop app, we ask a few questions about how you quilt (your age range, quilting style, design process, the tools you use, and your biggest hurdle). The form is hosted by Tally. Your answers are linked to your account so we can understand who uses PatchOwl and shape it around how people actually quilt. You can ask us to delete them.

How you use PatchOwl. We record events describing how you interact with the Service — for example, when you create or open a design, view cutting instructions, or export a PDF — along with standard technical data like browser, operating system, IP address, and timestamps. This helps us understand which features are useful and fix things that break.

Feedback you send. When you use the in-app feedback button, we receive the message you typed, the type of feedback (bug, idea, praise, other), and the page you were on, linked to your account so we can follow up.

How we use it

We use the information above to:

  • provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
  • sign you in and keep your account secure;
  • manage the waitlist and send invitations;
  • reproduce and fix reported bugs;
  • understand which features get used and decide what to build next;
  • send you transactional emails about your account or invitations;
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or use it to train third-party advertising or AI models.

Who we share it with

We use a small set of trusted providers to operate the Service. Each receives only what it needs to do its job. For full details on how each provider handles your data, follow the links below.

  • Clerk — signs you in, manages your account and runs the waitlist. Receives your email and profile info. Privacy policy.
  • Stripe — processes payments. Receives your name, email, billing details and payment card information; we never see your full card number. Stripe also uses some of this information for its own fraud prevention and legal obligations. Privacy policy.
  • PostHog — product analytics. Receives usage events and technical data. Privacy policy.
  • Tally — hosts our surveys and the welcome questions in the desktop app. Receives whatever you submit there, along with your account ID and email so your answers are linked to your account. Tally is based in the EU and stores form data in Europe; form submissions are also emailed to us. Privacy policy.
  • Vercel — hosts our website and handles aggregate web analytics. Privacy policy.
  • GitHub — distributes our desktop app installers and updates. Privacy policy.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and property of PatchOwl and its users.

Your choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Email info@patchowl.com and we’ll respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — for example, the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) if you’re in the UK, or your national data protection authority if you’re in the EEA. If you’re in Canada, see “Canada and Quebec” below.

Cookies and browser storage. We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences (like your theme), and run analytics. You can clear or block these in your browser; doing so may sign you out and disable some features.

How long we keep it

We keep account information while your account is active. Usage events are kept for the period configured in our analytics provider. Waitlist emails are kept until your invitation is sent and for a reasonable period after. Answers to the onboarding questions are kept while your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize associated personal information within a reasonable time, except where we’re required to retain it for legal, accounting, or security reasons.

Security

We use standard safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS) and access controls. No system is perfectly secure; if you discover a vulnerability, please report it to info@patchowl.com.

Canada and Quebec

If you’re in Canada, we handle your personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you’re in Quebec, we also follow Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25.

Our Privacy Officer, the Chief Operating Officer, is reachable at info@patchowl.com. Contact our Privacy Officer to access or correct your personal information, withdraw your consent, or make a complaint. We respond within 30 days.

Your information is held by the service providers listed above. Most are based in the United States; Tally stores form data in the European Union. This means your information is stored and processed outside Quebec and Canada, and may be accessible to authorities in those countries under their laws. We assessed the privacy risks of sending personal information to each of our providers, and each is bound by a written data processing agreement requiring it to protect your information.

If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or, if you’re in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information (cai.gouv.qc.ca).

Children

PatchOwl is intended for people aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has provided us with personal information, contact us at info@patchowl.com and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above. For material changes, we’ll give additional notice by email or in-app message.
